Cordoba C7 Classical Guitar, SP/IN


 

The Cordoba C7 features a solid Canadian Cedar or European Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides. The top is braced with a 7 fan Torres style bracing system for a warm and resonant sound. The neck is made of lightweight Cedar, and the fingerboard is Rosewood. As a full size traditional Spanish guitar, the scale length is 650mm (25.6 inches), and fingerboard width at the nut is 52mm (2 inches). The C7 is handmade and includes several detailed refinements like an all rosewood binding with a maple and ebony inlaid purfling, rosewood bridge with bone saddle and rosewood & bone inlaid tie block, rosewood headstock veneer, and heel cap. The burgundy ring and mosaic rosette has been inlaid by hand is made using all natural woods. The gold tuning machines are floral engraved with black accents and ebonized buttons. I'd been playing the guitar for about a year on a steel string  acoustic when I decided to start playing classical so I bought a classical nylon guitar along with this method book from progressive. I had other progressive series books and primers, but for the classical guitar this was the best.This book has about a hundred pages or so of quality lessons and excercises.The book is all musical notations and fingerstyle lessons.It doesn't contain any TAB lines.It also contains a fretboard guitar notes diagram and a music glossary at the end of the book.If you have a passion to learn classical guitar this is the book for you.

What are some of the best known classical pieces for the spanish classical guitar repertoire?

Please feel free to include things like Suite Española by Albinez or the Bach Cello Suites which were originally written for another instrument but have become very popular in the guitar repertoire.

I’m really curious to know what are considered the essential pieces of the classical repertoire for the classical guitar.

I would say the ‘core’ classical guitar repertoire would be:

Albéniz – Asturias; Tango
Malcolm Arnold – Guitar Concerto Op 67
Brouwer – 11 Guitar Concertos; many important solo pieces
Castelnuovo-Tedesco – Guitar Concerto No 1 in D Op 99
Giuliani – Guitar Concerto No 1 in A Op 30

Granados – Two Spanish Dances
Myers – Cavatina (not really classical, but a ‘classic’)
Piazzolla – Verano Porteño
Rodrigo – Concierto de Aranajuez
Rodrigo – Fantasia pata un gentilhombre
Sor – Introduction and Variations on a Mozart’s ‘O cara armonía’ from ‘The Magic Flute Op. 9
Tárrega – Recuerdos de la Alhambra
Villa-Lobos – Five Preludes for solo guitar
Villa-Lobos – Guitar Concerto
Vivaldi – Concertos in A, D and G (transcribed from lute concertos)

And, of course, the Bach Cello Suites arranged for guitar
