Ashley Sanders Lattice Braced Concert Classical Guitar

This is a fantastic 2008 Ashley Sanders spruce top which was sold. Ashley is a talented Australian luthier that studied with John Price. The guitar is made from German spruce top and highly figured pomele sapeli back and sides. The guitar has a 650 scale length, 52 mm nut and Schaller tuners with ebony buttons. Like Smallman guitars, it has an arched back and powerful sound. Sanders’ guitars compare with $6000+ guitars. They are wonderful concert instruments that would be perfect for both concertizing or recording. The guitar has incredible volume, a sweet and brilliant tone that melds the best of Spanish tone with Australian power. The craftsmanship and detail are very good. The basses are beautiful and round and the trebles really sing. The spruce top has some minor playing wear on the top and a very small ding on the lower side.

Stanley Myers – Cavatina ( Classical Guitar )
Stanley Myers (6 October 1930 — 9 November 1993), was a prolific British film composer who scored over sixty films. Born in Birmingham, as a teenager Myers went to King Edward’s School in Edgbaston, a suburb of Birmingham. He is also known for composers music for cult films House of Whipcord, Frightmare and House of Mortal Sin for cult filmmaker Peter Walker.
He is best known for Cavatina (1970), an evocative guitar piece that served as the signature theme for Michael Cimino’s 1978 film The Deer Hunter, and for which Myers won the Ivor Novello Award. A somewhat different version of this work, performed by John Williams, had appeared in The Walking Stick. And yet another version had lyrics added. Cleo Laine and Iris Williams, in separate recordings as He Was Beautiful, helped to make Cavatina become even more popular.
The song received new life in 2007 when Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts included it in his debut album, One Chance.
Myers also wrote incidental music for a 1964 serial in the television series Doctor Who, and the theme for the BBC’s Question Time.
During the 1980s, Myers worked frequently with director Stephen Frears. His score for Up Your Ears (1987) won him a “Best Artistic Contribution” award at the Cannes Film Festival. He also scored several low budget features (“Time Traveler”, “Blind Date”, “The Wind”, “Zero Boys”) for director Nico Mastorakis, collaborating with Hans Zimmer.
Myers died of cancer aged 63 in Kensington and Chelsea, London.
“Cavatina” is a classical guitar piece by Stanley Myers and is most famous as the theme from The Deer Hunter.
The piece had been recorded by classical guitarist John Williams, long before the film that made it famous. It had originally been written for piano but at Williams’ invitation, Myers re-wrote it for guitar and expanded it. After this transformation, it was first used for the film, The Walking Stick (1970). In 1973, Cleo Laine wrote lyrics and recorded the song as “He Was Beautiful” accompanied by John Williams.
Following the release of The Deer Hunter in 1978, Williams’ instrumental version of “Cavatina” became a UK Top 20 hit. Two other versions also made the Top 20 the same year – another instrumental recording by The Shadows, with an electric guitar played by Hank Marvin (#9 in the UK singles charts); and a vocal version (using Cleo Laine’s lyrics) by Iris Williams.
The song was also recorded by Paul Potts on his debut album, One Chance. There is a gospel version set to Cavatina called “Beautiful” the author is Billy Evmur and it appears in the “Dove On A Distant Oak Tree” collection. Another vocal version with different lyrics was recorded by Vince Hill (released on the compilation The Ember Records Story Vol. 2 – 1960-1979).

Jim Frieson Concert Classical Guitar-Classical Guitar Salon
I currently have two exceptional Jim Frieson guitars available, both of which are spruce tops. The guitar being showcased below is a 2009 Jim Frieson concert classical guitar. Top made from spruce, stunning Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, premium ebony fretboard, special Tasmanian Blackwook neck, snakewood binding, handmade rosette of natural Brasil woods. French polished with Kusmi No 1 Special buttonlac. The craftsmanship and sound are exquisite and the details are the best that I have ever seen.
James Frieson is a Canadian builder who was born in 1952. Frieson made his first guitar in 1972 for his own use. He sold it, made another, this repeated three times, which made him fascinated by the building process. Frieson met master luthier, Olivo Espin, whom he credits with teaching him about the aesthetics of the guitar as well as the craft, and worked with him for 5 years late 1970s- early 80s. During this time, Jim made a wide variety of stringed instruments and he developed associations and friendships with many Spanish and Latin American players who further influenced his instruments. He has since that time been building and has built for such diverse players as Laura Young, Phillip Candelaria, Alan Torok, Jose Valle, Marcell Powell, Helio Beltrao, Hoshi Kiyoshi, Tamaki Shibuya. He now lives in Hokkaido Island, Japan, building high quality classical guitars.
The sound produced by his guitars is spectacular. They possess a very bright and lively sound with incredible power and a quick response. The tone is extremely beautiful tone with a wide range of colors and personalities. The balance is absolutely perfect. If you have not had the chance to play a Frieson guitar, I highly recommend them. Jims guitars easily compare with the top guitars in the world and these prices will not last long. Best Spanish Guitar Ever
The classical guitar — (sometimes called the “Spanish guitar” or “nylon string guitar”) — is a 6-stringed plucked string instrument from the family of instruments called chordophones. The classical guitar is well known for its comprehensive right hand technique, which allows the soloist to perform complex melodic and polyphonic material, in much the same manner as the piano.
The classical guitar is characterized by:
* its strings — today typically the treble strings (g-b-e’) are nylon with the remaining 3 bass strings (E-A-d) being made of nylon fiber wound with metal thread. Though guitar strings are typically made of nylon today, animal gut strings (from the old tradition) are still available. The strings need to be replaced with new ones from time to time.
* the instrumental technique — the individual strings are usually plucked with the fingernails or rarely without nails.
* its historic repertoire, though this is of lesser importance, since any repertoire can be (and is) played on the classical guitar (additionally: classical guitarists are known to borrow from the repertoires of a wide variety of instruments)
* its shape, construction and material — modern classical guitar shape, or historic classical guitar shapes (e.g. early romantic guitars from France and Italy). The name classical guitar does not mean that only classical repertoire is performed on it, although classical music is a part of the instrument’s core repertoire (due to the guitar’s long history); instead all kinds of music (folk, jazz, flamenco, etc.) are performed on it.
The term modern classical guitar is sometimes used to distinguish the classical guitar from older forms of guitar, which are in their broadest sense also called classical, or more descriptively: early guitars. Examples of early guitars include the 6-string early romantic guitar (ca. 1790 – 1880), and the earlier baroque guitars with 5 courses.
Today’s modern classical guitar is regarded as having been established from the late designs of the 19th century Spanish luthier Antonio Torres Jurado. Hence the modern classical guitar is sometimes called the “Spanish guitar”.

STRINGS: Galli Genius Carbonio
I filmed this piece with two different concert guitars and this Zimnicki fared best. The fretboard made next to no recordable sound and its texture was more suited to the mic. This is a very unique guitar, a good guitar.
