Jim Frieson Concert Classical Guitar-Classical Guitar Salon
I currently have two exceptional Jim Frieson guitars available, both of which are spruce tops. The guitar being showcased below is a 2009 Jim Frieson concert classical guitar. Top made from spruce, stunning Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, premium ebony fretboard, special Tasmanian Blackwook neck, snakewood binding, handmade rosette of natural Brasil woods. French polished with Kusmi No 1 Special buttonlac. The craftsmanship and sound are exquisite and the details are the best that I have ever seen.
James Frieson is a Canadian builder who was born in 1952. Frieson made his first guitar in 1972 for his own use. He sold it, made another, this repeated three times, which made him fascinated by the building process. Frieson met master luthier, Olivo Espin, whom he credits with teaching him about the aesthetics of the guitar as well as the craft, and worked with him for 5 years late 1970s- early 80s. During this time, Jim made a wide variety of stringed instruments and he developed associations and friendships with many Spanish and Latin American players who further influenced his instruments. He has since that time been building and has built for such diverse players as Laura Young, Phillip Candelaria, Alan Torok, Jose Valle, Marcell Powell, Helio Beltrao, Hoshi Kiyoshi, Tamaki Shibuya. He now lives in Hokkaido Island, Japan, building high quality classical guitars.
The sound produced by his guitars is spectacular. They possess a very bright and lively sound with incredible power and a quick response. The tone is extremely beautiful tone with a wide range of colors and personalities. The balance is absolutely perfect. If you have not had the chance to play a Frieson guitar, I highly recommend them. Jims guitars easily compare with the top guitars in the world and these prices will not last long. Hard-shell case is included. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Emre Sabuncuoglu, classical guitar
http://www.EmreSabuncuoglu.com – Emre Sabuncuoğlu plays samples from his wide-ranging classical repertoire, which includes the following pieces:
“Recuerdos de la Alhambra” (Francisco Tárrega) – One of the staples in a classical guitarist’s concert repertoire, Recuerdos recalls composer Tárrega’s memories of the magnificent Alhambra, a fourteenth-century Moorish fortress located in Granada. Tárrega employs the tremolo technique to great effect in this work, which pays tribute to the Moors’ profound influence on Spanish culture.
“Vals Peruano” (Jorge Cardoso) – A contemporary classical guitarist and composer, Jorge Cardoso wrote this piece in the style of a vals peruano, a Criollo adaptation of the European waltz, to portray the cultural flavor of Peru. The piece is part of his Suite Sudamericana, which takes its listeners on a musical tour of the South American continent.
“Vals Venezolano No. 3, ‘Natalia’ ” (Antonio Lauro) – Also known as Vals Criollo, this charming piece by the twentieth-century Venezuelan guitarist and composer is named after Lauro’s daughter, Natalia. It is one of Lauro’s best-known works.
“La Catedral” (Agustín Barrios Mangoré) – Barrios (1885-1944), a Native Paraguayan composer, drew from both Western influences and his native Guarani culture to create his works. La Catedral is a tribute to the influence of faith upon his life.
“Asturias (Leyenda)” (Isaac Albéniz) – Originally written for the piano, Asturias has become a hallmark in the repertoire of world-class concert guitarists. Asturias is the prelude to Albéniz’ “Chants d’ Espagne,” op. 232.

The free piece this month is the traditional Spanish piece Granadina. There are all manner of practice exercises in this piece including: tremolo; rasgueado; arpeggios; triplets; glissandos; harmonics and much more! It’s in the key of E minor and has a very overt Spanish rhythm and flavour. It really “tone’s up” your skills but you might have to take it slow at first!

JOSÉ ROMANILLOS 04 | How to make the BETTER GUITAR TOP
CustomGuitarVideo.com | José Romanillos talks about the option to make the top of a Classical Guitar out of 3, 4 or even five pieces. José Romanillos became famous by building the guitars for Classical Guitar Virtuoso Julian Bream. He his one of the last icons in Spanish guitar making tradition. His guitars are among the most sought after classical guitars. José wrote numerous books about the Spanish guitar and the man who defined the classical guitar as we know it today, Antonio de Torres. We spent a whole week in Següenza, Spain close to Madrid to document his last guitar. In the first part José talks about how to select wood and the validity of old methods. This is right from the workbench. Spanish “Guitar Making” at its best.
